Description
The story of Drouin Calvados began in the last century. Probably no-one would have thought that Christian Drouin the elder, an industrialist from Rouen, was destined to make a career in spirits but that is just what happened when he bought a farm in Gonneville in Normandy which had established orchards of cider apples. He decided to use these apples to produce Calvados, and now the third generation continues his work.
The Estate is one of the 100 ‘sites of excellence in taste’ selected by the French Ministry for Culture, and in 1995 the European foundation awarded the estate its European Prestige Grand Prix for the whole of its production, which represents the quintessence of calvados.
This award-winning Calvados – it has won more than 10 awards world-wide – is a blend of bitter, bitter-sweet, sweet and sharp apples made up of distillations, all of which are at least 4 years old. Hints of oak and spice are picked up during this ageing process but the fruit still dominates the taste on the palate, with honey and flowers also playing a role. The bouquet is light with sweet aromas of brioche and autumn fruits.
