Description
Ant and Fiona McKenzie are the owners of Craft Farm Home Vineyard which is located in Havelock North, Hawkes Bay. The Craft Farm range of wines are classic single site expressions that showcase the essence of varietal and place. All the Grapes were planted over three consecutive years from 2010 and are grown without irrigation using an organic farming approach, although not certified organic. Much of the work on the Farm is done by hand with the help of friends and family and the use of one vintage tractor.
All grapes were harvested on one day and where de-stemmed to a 1.5T open top fermenter. After two days we undertook some foot stomping to liberate juice. Fermentation took around a week with endemic vineyard and winery yeasts. Total time on skins was two weeks. After pressing the wine stayed in tank and completed malolactic fermentation and maturation without followed by bottling without stabilising or fining.
With its superb blend of varietals, the aromas of white flower, grapefruit and musk are delightful. Nuances of grilled nuts and crème fraise add to the complexity. Extremely rich on the palate and finish. The range of flavours and textures make this ‘Orange’ Wine most interesting and unique.
Exceptional with Spicy Lamb Tagine or slow cooked Shoulder of Lamb, Roasted Vegetables. Also Feta Cheese
