The Tamar Ridge Winery is located in the heart of the Tamar Valley and on the banks of the Tamar River, just 20 minutes north of Launceston.The climate of north-eastern Tasmania is cool with many similarities to some of the  winemaking regions of Europe.  Tamar Ridge vineyard was established by Josef Chromy in 1994. Josef fled his war-torn Czech village in 1950 as a penniless 19-year-old after eleven years of Nazi and Soviet occupation. He escaped across borders guarded by minefields, dogs and soldiers, suffering five months of privation before immigrating to Australia. Over the next 40 years, he used his skills as a Master Butcher and Smallgoods Maker to build his business, Blue Ribbon Meat Products, into one of Tasmania’s leading brands.  In 1993, Blue Ribbon was floated on the Australian Stock Exchange, and Josef used the money to invest in Tasmania’s fledgling wine industry. Loyal to his adopted home, Tasmania, he has been instrumental in the development of Tasmania’s Food and Wine Industry.   With its cool climate Northern Tasmania is now widely recognised for it world class Sparkling Wines.

Produced in the traditional method with grapes from the Tamar Valley vineyard, Pirie is a multi-award winning traditional sparkling wine produced from 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir.  A pale straw colour with a fine and persistent bead. Light brioche autolysis notes from lees ageing are balanced by crisp apples and citrus.   The wine has great length and intensity being aged for a full 18 months.

Beautiful served with Oysters, Langoustine or Smoked Salmon.
